RICHARD NIXON ENDORSES TOM DALY!

(Richard Nixon Shown Here in 2005 in an Advanced State of Decomposition)

In a surprise announcement today, former President of the United States and current resident of Yorba Linda, Richard Nixon, announced his support of Tom Daly for Orange County Supervisor for the Fourth District. Although Nixon died in 1994 he maintains an active interest in OC politics.

"I represent a growing number of morally bankrupt GOP politicians who believe the time has come to jettison principles of conservatism and go with the candidates who are most likely to grow the size and scope of government. In government, success is judged by the size of your staff and the amount of your budget. Tom will be very successful."

Daly campaign spokesman Herb Dillman said "this is great news for us. We anticipate broad support from unconvicted, self-serving, moribund, and even dead Republicans."

Thousands attend John & Ken’s Tax Revolt protest in Fullerton

UPDATE: Video of this event will be available at this link by 6 pm tonight.

A KFI AM-640 tax revolt tea party took place this afternoon in the city of Fullerton, CA. As I exited the 91 freeway onto Harbor Blvd heading north to East Commonwealth Ave. I immediately knew John and Ken’s KFI AM-640 open air program was going to be a packed house. In fact I had to drive six blocks to find a parking place as the city parking garage and surrounding areas were all full.

As I approached the KFI stage attendees passed several booths such as the HJTA booth where volunteers were giving out NO on Measure 1 A bumper stickers,  the AFP blow up ATM machine where a man held a sign reading “I am not California’s ATM, a recall Assemblyman Jeff Miller booth, another area with volunteers signing up recall Arnold rolls and some fun games including John and Ken’s Political Traitor Shoe Toss where you throw a shoe at a picture of Arnold and the Legislature leaders who supported the tax increase. Another booth labeled a “flush-a-natar” dunk tank where I saw young boys getting a bucket of water dumped on their heads in the 68 degrees afternoon.

I arrived a full hour before the official program starting time of 3 p.m. and can report that we did not need John and Ken to get us pumped up. Several in the crowd, which grew to around 2,500 and counting, starting chanting “off with their heads, off with their heads” to huge participation from the many who drove from as far away as San Diego and Murietta to be part of this anti tax increase gathering. There must have been hundreds of man made signs. I take that back. Many of the signs were also created by the ladies in the standing-room-only area between the railroad track and the Slidebar Cafe.

George Collins, producer of Santa Ana Insight, drove up alongside me standing on his Segway Personal Transporter filming the crowd. Nice touch.

Let me give you a sampling of the signs “Schwarzenegger is a girly man, Taxes are way too high, somewhere, somehow, someone’s going to pay–us, Benedict Arnold Traitor, Total Recall Arnold, Raped by the state, Corrupt politicians–taxation without representation, No on 1 A, Recall Arnold, Sacramento is sick, Californian Leaders betray us taxpayers.”
One sign that was well received read “U.S. unemployment 8.5%.” The next line read “California’s unemployment 10.6%” with the final line reading “state workers unemployment 0%.” Another sign read “How do politicians spell pledge L-I-E” with another reading “born free, taxed to death.”

As John and Ken opened the live KFI radio broadcast we were asked “taxpayers, are you ready?” as we looked at their toilet plunger with a legislator face on the end. The crowd was then encouraged to chant “heads on a stick, heads on a stick” that did not require much urging. Another chant was “revolt, recall, repeal.  Revolt, recall repeal.”

We did not need to be reminded that we pay the highest sales tax rate in the nation and the other tax increase just approved by our legislators. At one point Ken walked on stage with Arnold’s head on a sword which surely got the crowd’s attention.

We listened to a sound bite/cut familiar to me in which Governor Schwarzenegger, in 2006, stated “I will not raise taxes on the people of California.” This was followed by another chant of “liar, liar, liar.” We were told that our taxes will be increased $50 billion over the next four years.

Before one of the commercial breaks Fullerton City councilman Shawn Nelson was invited to use a sledgehammer and smash a VHS copy of Arnold’s Last Action Hero.

This was followed by Ken and John using a shredder to destroy a DVD of Arnold’s 1987 movie Predator to the enjoyment of the crowd.

The down side of getting up to the fifth row from the stage was trying to leave. I briefly spoke to Fullerton Planning Commissioner, Supervisor Norby Exec Assistant Bruce Whitacre and CRA officer Steve Sarkis.

On my was out I stopped by a man wearing a huge sandwich sign which read. “Pledge to my voters: I will not support a budget that includes tax increases.” Assemblyman Anthony Adams.  Big Fat Liar. They were handing out cards reading RECALL Assemblyman Anthony Adams which reads that he “casted one of the three Republican votes that were needed to raise our taxes.” It has a web site reading www.RecallAdams.org.

My last stop at the event was to stop at a booth with a long line of voters waiting to sign a petition calling for the recall of Assemblyman Jeff Miller. I picked up a flyer at that booth which opens stating “we do not want our leaders merely for a ‘Yes’ or ‘No’ vote. We elect them to fight on our behalf and protect the constituents from government abuse. Jeff Miller has FAILED to Protect Us.” One bullet point reads. “Miller voted to put an extra 2 year tax increase on the ballot after pledging “no new taxes.” It has a web address www.recallmiller.com

Heading to the street and my car there were hundreds of other people coming from all directions to catch part of this KFI broadcast that is still on the air as I finish this blog post.

Great weather, energized crowd, numerous signs and a great message from John and Ken that needs to resonate across our state.

Moorlach wants to put a stop to health education for O.C. teenagers

The O.C. Board of Supervisors has been such an overwhelmingly disastrous body this year that it should not come as a surprise that “Next Tuesday, John Moorlach, Orange County Supervisor District 2, will bring an agenda item to the Board of Supervisors meeting that could drastically inhibit our ability to serve the community,” according to an email I received from Planned Parenthood.

Moorlach “plans to single out Planned Parenthood by withholding more than $290,000 in health education funding. Services provided through the Health Education Program empower teens and young adults throughout our community to make informed, healthy, and responsible decisions about their health, and ultimately to reduce the incidence of unintended pregnancies, STIs, and tobacco use in Orange County.”

As usual, Moorlach is once again ignoring contractual obligations.  “Any attempt by the supervisors to change the contract represents a breach of contract and an abuse of power on their behalf. At a time when people are losing their jobs and their insurance coverage, Supervisor Moorlach wants to take hundreds of thousands of dollars away from primary health care resources.”

Recently, the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) released staggering results from a new report (March 2007) that at least 1 in 4 teenage girls in the United States has a sexually transmitted infection. That more than three million teenage girls have a sexually transmitted infection (STI) underscores what Planned Parenthood has known for years: teenagers need to know how to protect themselves against sexually transmitted infections and unintended pregnancy.

Locally, rates of teen pregnancy and STIs remain high among Orange County youth. While teen birth rates are declining nationally, areas within Orange County continue to report rates as much as three times higher than the state's rate.

Young people are also disproportionately affected by STIs. In 2004, people ages 15 to 24 in Orange County accounted for 62% and 43% of Chlamydia and Gonorrhea cases, respectively. Orange County also ranks among the top ten in AIDS cases and in the top five in HIV cases in California. Nationally, nearly half of all new AIDS cases are discovered in those under 25 years old.

Moorlach and company are okay with blowing public money on unneeded remodeling and furniture and they all get free gas and huge car allowances. They voted down restaurant health ratings this year and now Moorlach is showing that public health in general doesn’t matter to him. I can only hope that it matters to the rest of our lame Supervisors.

The City of Santa Ana spent millions on the Artists Village, 10 years later - was it worth it?

Note: There is a poll embedded within this post, please visit the site to participate in this post's poll.

The Santa Ana Artists Village celebrated ten years of existence yesterday.  How sad that the anniversary was marked this year by the expulsion of the Vietnamese art exhibit FOB II, by the City of Santa Ana, at the behest of Assemblyman Jose Solorio.

What does that say about the Artists Village?  Censorship is anathema to artistic expression.  Yet there was not a peep from anyone in the Artists Village when the FOB II exhibit was shut down.

Has the Artists Village made a tremendous difference?  And does the City of Santa Ana really support it?

The city spent $7.5 million to purchase and rehab the building which houses the Grand Central Art Center, which opened on Feb. 28, 1999.  It is owned by the city and leased to Cal State Fullerton for $1 a year, according to the O.C. Register.

If you look at the Grand Central Arts Center staff page, you won’t find any Latino surnames.  That reminds me of the Bowers Museum Board of Governors, which sports exactly one Latino, Santa Ana Mayor Miguel Pulido.

How many public libraries could we have opened up with the millions spent on the Artists Village?  We still have only one fully functional library and it is still closed on Sundays.

And our city is exploding in crime this year. So really, has anything changed?  I think the jury is still out on that one.

Don’t get me wrong. I support the arts.  But spending public money in this arena remains highly questionable.  And I really don’t know if this development has been that much of a benefit to the people of Santa Ana.

Death of Chrysler’s turbine powered car. Auto industry/EPA conspiracy?

While we read of electric and hybrid vehicles today how many of us remember the Chrysler Turbine powered car that, in addition to regular gas, could run on any fuel from diesel, kerosene, vegetable oil, JP-4 jet fuel to perfume and tequila?

Did the oil industry and our federal government’s Environmental Protection Agency, EPA, stifle mass production of this early answer to our ongoing dependence on traditional crude oil?  Had Chrysler engineers, after nine years of R&D along with an investment exceeding $100 million corporate research dollars, solved the NOx challenge in their sixth or seventh generation turbine engine?

Before giving a history of the automotive turbine engine let me address the prior arguments regarding this power plant for blog discussion purposes.

At that time, and early product generation, there was a huge concern about the environment such as smog in the LA basin. The one problem with that early vintage turbine engine is that it generated excessive nitrogen oxides, (NOx). Another pollutant being SO2 that combines with oxygen to form sulfuric acid vapor (H2SO4).

However the story does not end here. Chrysler went on to develop seven generations of the turbine engine including research based on a $6.2 million Grant in 1972 from the EPA for ongoing R&D. One report I have read indicates that “hydro carbon and carbon monoxide emissions met prevailing statutory limits and (Chrysler) attained fuel economy that approached that of comparable piston engines. But by then it was approaching 1979, and lower NOx levels all seemed impossible. Worse, Chrysler was racing toward bankruptcy, and a deep recession was triggering federal program cuts all over.” Other reports state that “a condition of that (U.S. Government loan) was that gas turbine mass production be abandoned because it was too risky.”
Gilbert comment. Too risky to whom?

Further research includes statements that the 66 Dodge Charger and Dodge Coronet met the NOx regulations. In fact as late as 1977 Chrysler was promoting the Chrysler LeBaron Turbine.
Gilbert comment. What a difference a president makes. At that time, in the president Carter years, the recession was triggering “federal program cuts” while president Obama is taking us in the opposite direction with many new programs on his Agenda.

As stated above, our concern relating to being over a barrel regarding imported oil is not a new story. Ten years before OPEC’s Oct 1973 oil embargo, Chrysler Corporation had a product in their development that would enable us to become less dependent on imported crude. It was the Chrysler Turbine concept car of which 55 were built.  To test this revolutionary automobile, a two year trial was conducted in which 50 of the cars were given on no-cost loans to “users (for three months) based on geographic location and demographics that would expose the cars to the biggest audience.” Before the program ended over 200 families had the opportunity to participate in this product testing where they logged over one million miles driving these 1962, 2 door hardtop, Dodge vehicles. One documented test drive was conducted by Chrysler Research Director George Huebner, Jr. who drove one of these vehicles from New York’s Central Park in Manhattan traveling coast to coast to California. This four and a half day road trip took him into areas of the country where the temperature ranged from 17 below zero to 80 degrees F.

The air cooled turbine engine does not require any tune-ups, anti freeze nor oil changes and only had one spark plug. It had a fifth as many moving parts as a typical piston engine, was getting 17 MPG, and could go from 0-60 MPH in 12 seconds.
One major demonstration of its performance was witnessed by 250,000 racing car fans at the “Brick Yard” during the 1967 INDY 500 race. Parnelli Jones, driving Andy Granatelli’s Pratt & Whitney turbine powered entry, led the entire 500 mile race until breaking a transmission bearing three and a half laps from the finish line. He finished that race in 6th position behind A. J. Foyt.
In our March 6th discussion of his experience with the turbine engine INDY driver Parnelli Jones told us that “I didn’t know that the car would perform as well as it did. It handled like a dream.”

Let’s take a look at all the conspiracy theory comments on the death of the Chrysler turbine engine. In fact, at one time GM and Ford also invested into this technology.

Let’s begin with the aftermarket which is the industry’s biggest profit generator. Keep in mind that this engine requires no points, distributor, tune-ups or oil changes. It uses 1/5th the number of moving parts found in the conventional piston engine.
As stated above this engine will run on a variety of fuels, not just gasoline.
Some have stated that “certain high-ranking government officials, key oil companies and the automobile manufacturers are indeed closely related—as someone has said, they are cozy companions.”
I read another comment that “since gasoline is taxed, the more gasoline burned—the more dollars flow into government coffers.”

In closing. As we are constantly looking for ways to reducing our consumption of imported crude oil, and wish to see our auto industry survive, why isn’t the government opening their “cold case” files on the turbine engine to see if in fact the last generation engine developed by Chrysler engineers can be modified to comply with our latest Air Quality Standards?

Tax Revolt lawyer attacked by GOP hackers!

It has come to this.  Tax Revolt 2009 lawyer Mark Patlan has been attacked by GOP hackers!  Here is what was reported on the Tax Revolt 2009 blog:

It seems that the GOP is scared of Tax Revolt 2009, and is fighting back with dirty tricks.  Tax Revolt 2009 attorney Mark Patlan is reportedly under cyber attack by apparent party operatives.  On the eve of today's Tax Revolt rally, Patlan's business email account was deluged with several thousand hostile SPAM emails in a cowardly attack, under cover of darkness.

Patlan is surprised by these dirty tricks and thuggish behavior.  The GOP is fond of characterizing their Democrat opponents as catering to "union thugs".  Now, it is apparent that unions have no monopoly on thuggish behavior.  "The right to petition government for redress of grievances is an ancient right enshrined in our Constitution," says Patlan, "It is disappointing to see apparent party operatives engaging in unlawful behavior to punish citizens lawfully pursuing a Constitutional right."

Why would GOP hacks to this to Patlan?  The fact is, the Tax Revolt is all about standing up against the GOP hacks in our State Assembly who voted to put a tax increase, Prop. 1A, on the May 19 ballot.  This is a revolution against both Democrat and Republican political hacks.  Obviously the OC GOP consultants who worship money, not principles, are declaring war against Patlan.

Hey Mark - when you get tired of blogging for the hacks at the Red-faced County blog, please know you have a home here at the freedom-loving Orange Juice blog!

Billboard in Rush Limbaugh’s Backyard

Got something to say to Rush Limbaugh in 10 words or less? The Democratic party wants to hear from you.

The Democratic National Committee is soliciting slogans for a billboard to appear in Limbaugh’s “hometown” of West Palm Beach, Fla. The lucky winner will receive a T-shirt emblazoned with the winning slogan.   The DNC will pay the entire cost for the billboard once a winning entry has been selected in the “not too distant future,” LaVera said, adding that it was immediately unclear how entries have been received as of Friday.

Responding on-air to the billboard, Limbaugh said in true tongue and cheek form he “wanted to see evidence” that the DNC did not use taxpayer money to pay for the billboard.

DNC Contest Link

Or maybe you want to join the hordes of GOP’ers who are kowtowing and apologizing to Boss Limbaugh?  Here is the DNC’s Apology Generator page.

Here’s my personal favorite:

Dear Rush,
I am sorry that I called you a chickenhawk who supported the war in Iraq but used a boil on your ass to get a deferrment when your turn came to fight in Vietnam.

I am sorry that I called you a hypocrite and mysogynist when you lambasted liberals for having poor values while you got divorced 4 times.

I am sorry that I called you a jerk, when after Jerry Garcia died, you said he was just another dead doper, and avocated stiff jail terms for drug users, and then a few years later you were caught with thousands of Oxycontins and you hired a famous OJ-style defense attorny to work the system to keep you out of jail for felony possession.

I am sorry that you got caught with someone elses prescription for Viagra when you returned from a sex-with-young-girls tour of the Dominican republic (yeesh, creepy … at least I hope you gave the girls a VERY big tip for what you had them do).

I’m sorry that you take pleasure in torturing Republicans who dare to utter the mildest peep about you. I am sorry you are such a thin skinned jackass.

But please Rush, don’t stop. Your country needs you more than ever, for if anyone represents the worst in our country and a role model of exactly what a valueless, hypocritical, cowardly, creepy, gluttonous, money-ubber-alles grubber is like, it is you.

yours in deep sorrow
Dov

Gutless California Republican legislators placed a tax measure on the May ballot

Sacramento appears to have no limits on gutless Republicans.  According to the John and Ken radio show, the Assembly Republicans in Sacramento all voted to place Prop. 1A on the May 19 ballot.  This is a bogus spending cap that raises our taxes for years!

The GOP legislators say that they did not vote for the tax part of this measure, but according to John and Ken they knew in advance that taxes would be added to the spending cap measure.

“We don’t refer to it as a spending cap,” said Jon Coupal, president of the anti-tax Howard Jarvis Taxpayers Association. “We refer to it as phony budget reform,” according to the San Francisco Chronicle.

The funny thing is, this proposition is angering both the left and the right.

“Opposition to the measure on the May 19 ballot is emerging both from the Democrat-leaning left, which argues that the cap will hamstring already strapped social-service budgets, and Republicans and conservatives on the right, who complain that the cap opens the way to higher taxes.”

Red County editor Matt/Jubal Cunningham is trying to recall State Senator Abel Maldonado for voting for the budget.  Is Matt going to come after the rest of the GOP idiots in Sacramento now that they have essentially voted to put a tax increase measure on the ballot?  I doubt it!

Vote No on Prop. 1A - and let’s work to dump all the Assembly Republicans.  None of them are worth a damn!

Less than ten percent of voters prefer Chuck DeVore over Senator Barbara Boxer

Nine percent.  That is all the support that California Assemblyman Chuck DeVore (R-Irvine) can muster in his doomed campaign for the U.S. Senate, according to a new poll published in the San Francisco Chronicle.

The incumbent that DeVore is challenging, Senator Barbara Boxer, has the support of 52% of the voters.

DeVore is “viewed favorably by 8 percent and unfavorably by 10 percent, but 82 percent of state voters hold no opinion of him.”

Sorry Chuck!  Maybe you should run for the Irvine City Council again?  Oh, that’s right.  You couldn’t win that race either back in the day…

Tax Revolt coming to Fullerton on March 7

Is Fullerton ready for a John and Ken invasion?  The Tax Revolt 2009 Facebook page has announced a huge protest to be held in Fullerton, as follows:

On Saturday, March 7th, there will be a massive anti-tax rally at the Slide Bar Cafe in Fullerton held by KFI AM 640’s “shock jock jihadists” John and Ken. We are protesting the recent passage of the largest single tax increase in any state in the 232 1/2 year saga of these fruited plains by the Effeminator formerly known as the Governator formerly known as the Terminator formerly known as a steroid-injecting, pot-smoking, tittie-groping, knuckle-dragging “forehead”. Are you going to let this thick-skulled Austrialopithecus run you and your loved ones out of the greatest state in the greatest nation in the history of mankind? HELL NO! Neither will we suffer the continued tyranny of his cronies - especially those in the Republican Party - who either voted for or were complicit in this steaming horse turd of a budget.

Here are the event details:

Date: Saturday, March 7, 2009
Time: 3:00pm - 6:00pm
Location: Slidebar Cafe
Street: 122 E. Commonwealth Ave.
City/Town: Fullerton, CA

I bet that our blogger Tony Bushala will be there!  I encourage all our readers to head to Fullerton on March 7!

Nixon II Back in the OC

Well here it is, the highly anticipated, (and highly edited) tapes released from the OC Bos meeting with Sandra Hutchins. This tape clearly shows deputies who were working the camera at best "snooping" on supervisor Norby, and at worst "Spying" on his personal notes.

http://totalbuzz.freedomblogging.com/2009/03/05/video-shows-sheriffs-official-snooping-on-county-supervisor/13989/#comment-45175

The part that bothers me, is along the same lines, as the Nixon tapes. If this is what they didn't delete, what are they hiding? The Sheriff has said this has been dealt with, and the deputies were properly admonished? Really? Exactly what was done? Where are the rest of the tapes?

I can only hope and assume that this type of Nixonian "I'm above the law" attitude will relegate her administration to the same disgraced and discredited place in the historical scrap heap of failed and corrupt politicians.
