Any “Survivor” fans out there? New Death Show in the works.A New York Post article reports that Jeff Probst’s new Survivor show about dying is still alive and in the works. The show is called, “Live for the Moment“, and is somewhat in limbo with CBS for the coming 2010 fall season. Will a show about death and dying generate an audience large enough to keep it going? Could the subject run out of steam too quickly, as CBS frets? Here’s a snip from the article:
Iran. What do we know about the Mujahedeen-e Khalq, MEK?In reading OC Register Senior Editorial Writer Alan Bock’s Commentary, “Lost in the crowd,” [Sunday, June 21], it reminded me of our Cutting Edge-a talk show interview with Major General Paul E. Vallely, USA (Ret.) at the Western CPAC Conference in Oct of 2007. The following day I spoke to “Baghdad Ablaze” co-authors Lt. General Thomas McInerney, USAF, (Ret.) and Major General Vallely about the role of the Mujahedeen- e Khalq, MUK, in this lengthy regional conflict. In their book they credit the MUK for their role in ending the Iran/Iraq war as they fought in opposition to the Khomeinists from a base inside Iraq. Ref. UN Security Council Council Resolution #598. In our discussion they told me that Iraq was under pressure from Iran and cut off supplies to the MUK HQ in Camp Ashrof located northeast of Baghdad. In fact “U.S. forces cracked down on the MEK (at their HQ) where about 3,400 people were disarmed, surrendering two thousand tanks, armored personnel carriers, and heavy artillery pieces.” As we witness video footage of the election rallies in Tehran let close with one final statement from Baghdad Ablaze where they address opposition to the current regime. As Baghdad Ablaze was published in 2007, predating this past week’s Iranian presidential election, the verdict is still out as to whether or not the Tehran rallies will have any effect on the outcome. To hand count 30 million votes, two hours after the polls closed, is simply bogus. To view our interview with Major General Vallely simply go to the archives of our web site and click on the program entitled Western CPAC Oct 2007. He is one of several guest speakers on that program, including Michael Reagan, that you can watch at “no charge” 24/7 Is it possible to create Immigration Reform?President Obama has listed Immigration Reform right up there with Economic Recovery and Reform, Health Care Reform, Education Reform, Support for Afghanistan and Pakistan…..Halting Unemployment and finding average Americans new jobs…..while the Auto, Manufacturing and even the Service Sector is static. The Foreclosure news is filled with conjecture and questions regarding whether an economic Recovery is presently under way or we will have to wait to 2011. The President however, continues to cheer lead and pursue unabated his very emphatic energy to keep doing things….no matter what. His tough intrepid character has also shown through by seeking out bi-partisan support for his Supreme Court nominee Judge Sotomayor…which now appears like a virtual “Slam dunk” if the momentum continues! The President also has no qualms about pushing his many appointees out into the the public eye. Starting with the Vice President and his 2nd Lady…..the energy seems impressive. Even his own 1st Lady never seems at rest. This is an Administration that is demostrating unbelieveable motivation and energy. Like the Energizer Bunny the Obama Administration keeps “going and going and going”! Immigration Reform? This one is a hard act to make anyone happy about. If the President promotes Amnesty….it will not only cost him votes but long term harm. If he promotes a hard line…….it will cost him votes now and in the next election. So, how can this thorny issue come to some equitable resolution that can please enough people to come out positive, even with a demurrer? There is little doubt that two issues are at hand: (1) This is a Census Year coming up! …and (2) We have no exact knowledge of how many Illegal’s are in our country. That number ranges from 11 to 26 Million! That sadly will not be helped with a Census Report unless these people are willing to step up and be counted. Our first question should be: How can we get these people to send in their information? One thing is certain: If we are going to charge these people upwards of $5,000 bucks or more to become legal..that system is not going to work! If we charge them nothing……there is little doubt, that kind of system may not work either. How about this one? All illegal immigrants have until January 1st, 2010 to send in their vitals and residence information. They will not be charged by the government or deported unless they fail to notify the Department of Homeland Security by that date! After that date they will be charged $5,000 for each year of illegal entry and are eligible for immediate deportation. Is deportation really an option? Yes, of course deportation works for known felons, “gang bangers” or anyone else illegally here that exhibits anti-social behavior. As long as they remain well behaved guests in our country…there should be no penalty. However, processing legal entry into the United States for 11 to 26 Million people will take a while. There should be no hurry. One thing is certain…now that going across the Canadian or Mexican border requires a Passport……this will severely restricted easy legal access to those with family and friends across those borders without papers. Once these people have signed up……while in the immigration process…..they can get two one month Visa’s to go to Canada or Mexico every year. Serious penalties should be incurred if illegals fail to get into the process! What should happen when someone is found crossing our borders illegally? Anything? What if they have family in the United States? What if they are not allowed a Temporary Work Visa in the United States? What if an illegal comes to this country and commits a felony? What if “Anchor Babies” are required to only live here with Legal US Resident Grandparents or other blood relatives? The parents need to go home, file papers and wait for legal methods to come back into this country. When their child is an American Citizen they obviously must have other blood relatives here or that child must go back to the parents country of origin until they turn 21 years of age. The details will need to be agreed upon in a “fully agreed to” bi-partisan effort. This issue well could decide how any preposed re-election campaign may turn out. It could well determine the fate of the mid-term elections of 2010. How the Immigration issue turns out in 2009….may well be the most important issue of all. How both parties deal with it - may be the critical pivot point for some time to come! O.C. Fair Board paid over $1.3 million for plagiarized marketing campaignArtwork courtesy of the O.C. Register “This year's theme is "Think Big," so the marketing agency hired by the fair — The Ball Park — provided characters holding a giant ice cream cone and a giant guitar. Each character's mouth was drawn wide-open, in a yawning fashion reminiscent of children's author Shel Silverstein and his book, "Where the Sidewalk Ends,” according to the O.C. Register. To make matters worse, the O.C. Fair Board paid the plagiarizers, Ballpark Advertising, $1.3 million for two years of marketing. Ballpark is located in El Segundo - in Los Angeles County. The O.C. Fair Board couldn’t even give the contract to a local firm. And they overpaid for plagiarism! The hacks on the O.C. Fair Board are a bunch of Republicans, as one might expect, including:
At least they finally dumped ex-O.C. Sheriff Mike Carona’s wife off the board! The Chair, Vandermost, owns a government affairs consulting business and shouldn’t be on this board in the first place. Dykema is a longtime member of the O.C. Lincoln Club. Dodge gave $2,400 to the losing Mitt Romney presidential campaign. Padilla is a complete nut who has been trying to make money off his connections in the OC GOP for years. He does not speak a lick of Spanish - and in fact there are no other Latinos on this board. Ellis also gave $2,300 to Romney, and he works in public relations. Shame on Ellis for not spotting the plagiarism in the first place - and as a consultant he should also NOT be on this board. Tucker has given $2,300 to both John McCain and John Campbell. Big waste of money! And Young is the Secretary of the O.C. GOP. The only guy who belongs on this board is Hayakawa, whose family has been involved in O.C. agriculture for years. These people ought to resign in shame! We need an O.C. Fair Board that will represent the people of Orange County - not the red-faced O.C. GOP hacks. The O.C. Fair Board has increased prices every year, for years - they now charge $10 per person. Parking is extra. God only knows what other ways this Board has found to waste public money - you may recall that they got busted by the state last year for giving away hundreds of concert tickets to their pals, and giving them expensive free dinners too! Bloggers from both Red County and the Liberal OC partook of the free tickets and grub. Shame on the lot of them! In this interview, Marc David, an expert in the psychology of eating, talks about the important role stress plays in digestion. Please view the video above for 5 minutes of well-spent time on the subject.
Many nutrients are also excreted during stress, particularly:
As if that's not enough, your cholesterol and triglycerides also go up, while gut flora populations decrease. You're also more likely to experience increased sensitivity to food and gastroesophageal reflux, or heartburn. But perhaps most importantly, when your body is under the stress response, your cortisol and insulin levels rise. These two hormones tend to track each other, and when your cortisol is consistently elevated under a chronic low-level stress response, you'll likely notice that you have difficulty losing weight or building muscle. Additionally, if your cortisol is chronically elevated, you'll tend to gain weight around your midsection. We've known for some time that body fat, and especially visceral fat (the fat that gathers around your internal organs, around your midsection) is a major contributing factor to developing diabetes and metabolic syndrome. The bottom line? When you eat under stress, your body is in the opposite state of where you need to be in order to digest, assimilate nutrients, and burn calories. Times editorial rips Santa Ana’s locked trash cans - and lack of compassionThe L.A. Times agrees with me that the City of Santa Ana’s locked trash cans are an affront to the poor. The Times addressed this with an editorial in today’s newspaper. Here it is in its entirety: Editorial In Santa Ana, the city has agreed to place locks on outdoor recycling bins for a dozen neighbors in the Wilshire Square district. The devices, as Times staff writer Tony Barboza reported, were designed to keep bears out of trash cans in Alaska, but there aren’t any bears in Santa Ana. Nor are the locks intended to thwart native critters such as raccoons, opossums, ravens or coyotes. Somewhere along the line, the city and the neighbors lost sight of the fact that the scavengers targeted by their locking-bin pilot program aren’t animals at all but a much more vulnerable species — homeless human beings, for whom discarded plastic and glass are a last-resort source of sustenance. The locks are being tested at the request of residents who lobbied for city protection from the homeless, who were raiding their trash and recycling bins for items with refund value. To be sure, this kind of dumpster diving (or bin burgling) is a nuisance. Residents complain of frightening early morning encounters with homeless men near their driveways or of being awakened at night by barking dogs and the loud clanks of glass bottles. What’s more, bin burgling can have a small but real cost, which is why it’s considered a crime in most cities. Santa Ana contracts with hauler Waste Management, which profits from the recyclables it collects. The “theft” of these items comes at the expense of the contractor rather than the city, but if the losses are significant, it could result in higher trash rates for residents. Waste Management is covering the expense of the new bins, which might be placed at homes in other parts of the city if the test is successful. Despite the nuisances, in the grand scheme of things, it’s hard to begrudge homeless men and women the pennies they’re able to collect from discarded recyclables. For the homeowners who toss them away, the redemption value of containers isn’t worth the inconvenience of hauling them to a collection center, yet to the desperately poor they can be a lifeline. California has been particularly unkind to its homeless population, which swelled after the mid-1960s when the state ended most involuntary incarceration for the mentally ill. Homeless services have never come close to meeting the demand throughout the state, and the current government budget crisis is reducing services even as the recession causes the number of indigent people to soar. A century or two from now, historians may look back at a society so hardhearted that it sends its misfits to live in the streets and then takes steps to ensure that they can’t even live off its trash, and wonder at the primitiveness of 21st century man. Pictures of the Laker’s championship celebration at the L.A. ColiseumDid you miss out on the Lakers championship celebration at the L.A. Coliseum? My friend Eric Garcia traveled to the event and took a ton of pictures, which he has posted at his Laker Liker Blog. It was quite a spectacle. This event was well organized and free of violence, unlike the chaos that erupted at the Staples Center on the night that the Lakers won their fifteenth championship. I wish I could have gone to the celebration, but I had to work. Now you can relive this event via the pictures at this link. Enjoy! Yes - I do expect the Lakers to repeat next year… Steve Poizner embraces gay hate and hires three rejects from failed presidential campaignsNote: There is a poll embedded within this post, please visit the site to participate in this post's poll.“State Insurance Commissioner Steve Poizner has bolstered his gubernatorial campaign team by hiring three campaign veterans who worked for GOP presidential candidates John McCain, Mitt Romney and Rudy Giuliani,” according to the Sacramento Bee. Let’s put this in some perspective. Poizner just hired three people (Audrey Perry, Lanhee Chen, and Jarrod Agen) with experience in failed Republican presidential campaigns. That’s not terribly impressive, is it? And Poizner has become quite the gay hater. “For the second year in a row, California Insurance Commissioner Steve Poizner has refused to issue a letter welcoming people to the state’s numerous Pride events,” according to the Bay Area Reporter. The hate strategy is working though, as Poizner announced the endorsement of a slew of OC GOP Talibani types, including:
Since when is Truong Diep known as “Tyler?” LOL! It is amazing how quickly the Trannies dump their culture in order to suck up to white Republican voters. It worked for Janet Nguyen, so I guess we can expect more of this. How does Poizner expect to become our next Governor by embracing gay hatred? I don’t get it. President Obama should tell the Neocons to take a hike regarding IranPicture Courtesy of the Times Online Note: There is a poll embedded within this post, please visit the site to participate in this post's poll.“With Iran on a razor's edge after a week of swelling protests, the Obama administration has fended off pressure from both parties to respond more forcefully to the disputed election there. But if Iranian authorities carry out their latest threat of a more sweeping crackdown, the White House would reconsider its carefully calibrated tone, officials said Friday,” according to the New York Times. How ridiculous. Will the Neocons never tire of dragging us into needless wars? If Obama speaks out too negatively against Iran, two things will happen. The protestors in Iran will be labeled tools of the Americans. And The Iranian government may well crack down Tianenmen style. Why would we want either of those outcomes? Americans need to understand that the people of Iran will never abandon their religious government. Republicans are on drugs if they think that Iranians will dump their Mullahs. It simply won’t happen. The best we can hope for is that the people will rise up, on their own, and get a new election. We cannot afford any more wars. This time we need to let the people of Iran fight their own battle. If we interfere we assure that the protestors will be killed. Look at the mess we made of Iraq. There was no reason to topple Saddam Hussein. He was the only thing keeping the Iranians in check. Invading Iraq was stupid. Let’s not repeat the mistake in Iran. If the people of Iran want change they will get it. The entire world is watching. It is time to refute the Neocons once and for all! OC SHERIFF-CORONER DEPT. They provided the following toll free number for further information. 1.800.559.5025 As the line was busy I verified the message by the following AP account. “By LAUREN SHEPHERD, AP Business Writer Lauren Shepherd, Ap Business Writer – Fri Jun 19, 11:34 am ET NEW YORK – Nestle USA on Friday voluntarily recalled its Toll House refrigerated cookie dough products after a number of illnesses were reported by those who ate the dough raw. The company said the Food and Drug Administration and the Centers for Disease Control are investigating reported E. coli illnesses that might be related eating the dough. In a statement, the FDA said there have been 66 reports of illness across 28 states since March. About 25 people have been hospitalized, but no one has died. The FDA advised consumers to throw away any prepackaged, refrigerated Nestle Toll House cookie dough products in their homes. Retailers, restaurateurs and employees at other food-service operations should also not sell or serve any of the products. O’Hearn said the company will “cooperate fully” with the FDA’s investigation. The recall includes refrigerated cookie bar dough, cookie dough tub, cookie dough tubes, limited edition cookie dough items, seasonal cookie dough and Ultimates cookie bar dough. It extends to chocolate chip dough and other varieties, including gingerbread, sugar and peanut butter cookie dough.
